Harris Tweed

Harris Tweed cloth must be: “Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.” It is the is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament and the only fabric produced in commercial quantities by truly traditional methods.

We have started our Harris journey with Carloway Mill. Based on Lewis (of course), they are known not only for their magnificent tweeds, but also for being the oldest Harris Tweed mill in the world. Set up as a nonprofit company set up to promote and maintain the tradition of Harris Tweed weaving in the island tradition, they do so with gusto.

Small production runs in superb colours mixed with creativity into an array of patterns – all of which will make for truly remarkable waistcoats. If you didn't think Harris Tweed could surprise you, Carloway will prove you wrong. We are starting with just one of their tweeds – more will come in due course!
